Job Description

Memorial Community Hospital and Health System, located in Blair, NE, is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support safe, high-quality patient care through the proper cleaning, assembly, and sterilization of medical instrumentation. This role is essential to ensuring all clinical areas have properly processed instruments.

The Sterile Processing Technician contributes to departmental and organizational goals by providing timely, accurate, and high-quality sterile processing services while supporting patient safety and satisfaction.

What You’ll Do:

  • Schedule: Day hours, 32-40 hours per week.
  • Clean, inspect, assemble, process, and sterilize all surgical instruments and equipment according to hospital policy, industry standards, and manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFU).
  • Follow universal precautions and comply with all OSHA safety requirements.
  • Perform daily and weekly testing and documentation for mechanical equipment, including washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilizers.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and complete documentation and logs.
  • Identify instruments requiring repair and assist with routine maintenance processes.
  • Assemble instrument sets using approved checklists and/or instrument tracking systems.
  • Assist with:
    • Case cart assembly
    • OR room turnover (as applicable)
    • High-level disinfection (HLD) and cleaning of GI scopes and TEE probes (where applicable)
  • Utilize sterile processing supplies efficiently and correctly according to IFUs.
  • Participate in departmental activities such as orientation, system education, quality initiatives, daily briefings, and supply management.

What You’ll Need:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1–2 years of sterile processing experience preferred
  • Certification not required but preferred:
    • CRCST
    • CSPDS
    • CSPDT
    • CSPDT-CSBSD

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to perform both simple repetitive tasks and complex, varied duties
  • Maintain an effective work pace in a fast-paced healthcare environment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, and make decisions based on available information
  • Accept responsibility and follow direction related to planning, control, and workflow
