Internship Description/Learning Objectives:

  • Gain a fundamental understanding of the juvenile justice system and the role of juvenile courts in Nashville.
  • Learn about legal procedures, court operations, and case management specific to juvenile cases.
  • Network with professionals in the legal and social services fields to gain insight and advice for future career planning.

Job Duties:

  • Assist court staff with daily tasks to develop administrative and organizational skills.
  • Observe court hearings and proceedings to gain firsthand experience of courtroom dynamics and judicial decision-making processes.
  • Enhance communication skills by interacting with court personnel, attorneys, and stakeholders.
  • Develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities by analyzing case files and court documents.

The full program is June 1st – July 17th   

June 1st – June 3rd:   Interns attend work readiness skills training from 8am – 12pm.

June 4th:                      Attend employer orientation meeting.

June 5th:                      POWER Youth Summit at Sheraton Music City Nashville Airport

June 9th – July 17th:   Youth will report to their employer worksite location on Monday – 

                                       Thursday or special schedule workday at the time 

                                        scheduled by employer.  You will be scheduled to work 6.5 hours daily

                                      which equals 24 hours per week.

Friday Cohorts:              Youth report to cohort sessions at assigned locations at 8:00am to 12:00noon on Fridays.

July 17th:                     POWER Youth Summer Employment Program.             

If you are selected as a High School Intern, you will make $15.00 an hour and receive pre-program training and coaching to ensure you have the skills you need on the job. Interns are responsible for providing their own transportation to all orientation, training, worksite, and cohort times. Please consider your transportation needs prior to applying for the High School Internship program. There are opportunities to intern in many areas of Nashville, so please select the opportunity based on your access to transportation.


The POWER Youth program, previously known as Opportunity NOW, provides career exploration and work experience activities for youth 14 to 24 years old. The name POWER Youth was selected by the peer youth leadership team based on how they view themselves and their future.
