Job Description

Our goal is to showcase why Peet’s is the unique and special place it is - and give students like you an opportunity to learn about our culture, operations, decision making processes, and day-to-day business. 

The program will be primarily project-based work and day-to-day shadowing/mentorship. The Interns will fill their weeks shadowing core members of the team to learn how their department functions and supports Peet’s business while focusing efforts on completing their project. The day-to-day activities will vary depending on which department you will support. 

We anticipate offering a variety of engagement activities including, but not limited to: Roasting Plant Tour, Coffee Tasting, Tea 101, Career Coaching, and Coffee Chat with Stuart Heflin – our President. These engagement activities are set to occur every other week. The connections you make here will be connections for life – and help you transition to the working world after graduation. We look forward to hosting you at Peet’s! 
 
Based in Peet’s Home Office in Emeryville, CA - we require all employees to work onsite 3 days per week.  This is a paid internship at $25.00/hr and will require a ~24 hours/week commitment from June 8-August 7, 2026.

What You Will Do: 

As a CPG Innovation & Insights Intern at Peet’s Coffee, you will help identify new product ideas that could appeal to younger consumers and support future growth. 

You’ll explore food and beverage trends, analyze consumer behavior and market data, and translate your findings into new product ideas- evaluating and recommending the ones most worth pursuing. You’ll also have the opportunity to engage directly with customers in café environments to better understand their needs, preferences, and behaviors. 

Innovation is a key driver of the company’s growth, and this role is designed to build your skills in innovation, consumer insights, and strategic thinking while giving you hands-on experience working on real business questions.  

  • Conduct in-store visits and competitive analysis to identify emerging food and beverage trends  

  • Conduct consumer and trend research using a mix of traditional methods and AI-enabled tools to gather, synthesize, and analyze insights  

  • Analyze market data to assess the size, attractiveness, and strategic fit of innovation opportunities  

  • Build a strong understanding of Peet’s brand, portfolio, and innovation approach  

  • Synthesize your learnings into clear recommendations on the top ideas we should pursue 

Who You Are (Qualifications and Skills): 

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Marketing or a related field (e.g., Business, Economics, Social Sciences, or Psychology) 

  • Enrolled as a full time or part-time student at a California University/College 

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with comfort working with data and research 

  • Able to synthesize information and communicate clear, structured ideas (written and verbal) 

  • Strong time management and prioritization skills 

  • Naturally curious about how and why people choose products, with an interest in understanding consumer behavior 

  • Interested in emerging food and beverage trends  

  • Open to feedback and eager to learn
