Job DetailsJob Location: Conner Prairie Museum - Fishers, IN 46038Position Type: InternshipJob Shift: DayJob Category: Nonprofit - Social ServicesPrincipal Function: There will be abundant opportunities for the intern to teach and mentor 10–17-year-olds. The intern will split their time between our outdoor grounds and indoor offices. Outdoor temperatures in the summer can exceed 95 degrees.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:  Assist with daily supervision of our 100+ youth volunteers, ages 10-18. Twenty-five youth or fewer will be present most days.  Help plan and lead half-day leadership training in July.  Engage in observable 1:1 coaching sessions with youth on our historic grounds. These will focus on mastery of facts, interpretative delivery, communication skills, and kinesthetic skills.  Learn administrative skills such as planning training, scheduling, and assisting youth staff in youth volunteer evaluation.  Gain an overview of Conner Prairie’s basic interpretation and education philosophy by observing posts throughout the museum. Help plan and lead an end of summer party with teambuilding activities. Education and/or Experience: High school degree or equivalent. Two years of collegiate studies preferred. A passion for youth growth and development in informal, dynamic learning environments is required. Knowledge of youth development, education, American History, or equivalent cultural studies is preferred but not required. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and/or Outlook is preferred. Strong interest in non-profit organizations desired. *Please note This position requires extensive daily walking, up to 10 miles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Conner Prairie is generally open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, this position will be required to work beyond these hours and when open for special events.
