Job Description

 
Animal Care Monitor (Full-Time, Overnight)
Schedule: 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., five days per week

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Monitor animal areas, facility systems, and life support systems overnight.
  • Conduct routine rounds of designated areas and observe for any changes or concerns.
  • Recognize and report changes in animal behavior, building systems, and equipment performance.
  • Identify patterns or irregularities in the collection, facility, and life support systems.
  • Provide accurate status updates at shift change and communicate overnight system changes to managerial and other department staff.
  • Take appropriate corrective actions as needed or trained.
  • Work independently during overnight hours.
  • Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Animal Care.
  • Comply with all safety practices, Animal Care policies, practices, and procedures, employee handbook policies, and all applicable governmental and AZA standards.
Requirements: A one-year certificate from a college or technical school is required, or three to six months of related experience and/or training. Any equivalent combination of education and experience that enables successful performance of the essential functions of the position will also be considered.

The Flint Hills Resources Center for Excellence in STEM Education integrates best practices from education, research, and industry to advance STEM learning in South Texas and beyond. The Wildlife Response Operations Center (WROC) at the Texas State Aquarium is a formalized framework for emergency response along the Texas Gulf Coast. The first of its kind in the country, it leads disaster and wildlife response planning, training, and operations. WROC partners include Texas Parks & Wildlife, Texas General Land Office, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), National Park Service, the U.S. Coast Guard, Port of Corpus Christi, and the Texas State Aquarium.
