Job Summary:
A registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient.

Education:

Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills; knowledge of organizational functions, policies and regulations; knowledge of current trends and new developments; knowledge of principles and practices of nursing.

BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward. ACLS within 6 mo. of hire.

The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.

Department Position Summary:
Employee must be able to provide kind and compassionate care to patients, many of which may have significant cognitive and/or functional impairment with variety of illnesses. Employee must have good assessment skills to gather information, relay relevant data to other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team and participate in the development of the multidisciplinary treatment plan of care.

Employee must possess communication skills to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, co-workers, ancillary departments and community agencies; must possess supervision skills to assure that staff work efficiently to complete assignments in a timely manner, consistently delivers excellent care and assures the smooth functioning of their shift and a smooth transition to the next shift to support the continuum of quality care.

The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective to the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures. The employee must have the ability to assess patient's age 15 and older and must be able to develop, implement and evaluate the individualized plan of care. Employee must have the ability to administer pharmacological drugs as ordered, perform procedures and operate equipment necessary for patient care as assigned.
