Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW 

We are looking for motivated students with a strong interest in biodiversity and the mining industry. In our internship program, you will receive important industry training and get involved in meaningful real-world projects like planning a program, designing a process, or implementing technology. The culmination of your program will include an opportunity to present your work to management at ASARCO & Grupo Mexico.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Support the development biodiversity management plans for Sonoran Desert riparian environment and plan for restoring environment to native conditions 
  • Strong understanding of the flora and fauna of the Sonoran Desert especially in riparian habitats. 
  • Awareness of the Endangered Species Act and ability to identify endangered species 
  • Ability to work with internal and external interested parties such as community members, neighboring landowners, public land managers, employees, etc… 
  • Basic understand of public and private land management practices 
  • Ability to collect soil, water, air, and biological matter sampling and have an understanding of environmental sampling best practices 
  • Ability to use and wear personal protective equipment 
  • Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety programs as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities. 
  • Time management skills in performing multiple projects with various team members. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively present findings and make recommendations. 
  • Must be able to legally operate motor vehicles on public roadways as well as off-way dirt roads 
  • Must be able to carry up to 40 lbs over rough, uneven, dirt surfaces up to a quarter mile 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products 
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • No previous experience required 
  • English language fluency. 
  • At leastB1 - Intermediate: Can deal with most situations likely to arise while traveling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.
