THRESHOLD ACOUSTICS LLC

Threshold Acoustics provides acoustics and AV design consulting for performance, education, worship, cultural and public assembly spaces. Our collective experience spans two decades and scores of prominent music, theater, educational, and religious buildings – as well as a remarkable diversity of others – whose owners have sought intentional, well-crafted soundscapes in their buildings. Our accomplished, engaging staff brings backgrounds in music, theater, mechanical and electrical engineering, physics, live sound, architecture, and architectural acoustics. That diversity supports our approach to room acoustics, audio/video systems, noise control, and sound isolation as inseparable parts of a whole. We apply our deep knowledge of the subject to every project, taking care to explain the scientific and perceptual basis for our recommendations because doing so frees the design team to explore possibilities with a clear understanding of what is acoustically important and why. Smart decisions, new approaches, and elegant designs can then emerge from the team as a whole. Beyond our core practice, we apply ourselves to more diverse areas that affect people on a daily basis, for example: serving on boards and lecturing in academia; presenting our research to the Acoustical Society of America; and contributing to new Veterans Administration guidelines for healing environments. By working through the AIA and other professional design organizations, we seek to increase awareness of the aural realm’s importance – which extends well beyond cultural events to workplace interactions, social exchanges, and the quality of life overall.
