What your day might look like:

Provides trauma-informed support to survivors of domestic and sexual violence by assisting program staff with advocacy, outreach, education, and resource coordination. Interns contribute to prevention efforts, administrative functions, and direct service activities under close supervision. This role supports the mission of SDSV to empower survivors, increase safety, and strengthen community awareness.

Intern assignments are structured to support academic requirements when applicable.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm

  • Assist advocates with survivor support activities, including safety planning, hotline support shadowing, and resource referrals.
  • Support community outreach, awareness events, and prevention education initiatives.
  • Help maintain program materials, educational resources, and data entry for tracking and reporting requirements.
  • Participate in case consultations, team meetings, and training required by the program.
  • Provide administrative assistance such as documentation, file organization, and updating resource lists.
  • Uphold confidentiality standards, trauma-informed practices, and all agency protocols.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by supervisor to meet program needs.
  • Combination of office-based, community-based, and training environments.
  • May include occasional evening or weekend activities depending on program needs.

Your skills and qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or graduate program in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to remain calm, empathetic, and professional in sensitive situations.
  • Interest in survivor advocacy, crisis response, and domestic/sexual violence prevention.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and maintain boundaries.
  • Confidentiality, discretion, and reliability are essential.
  • Must meet all required background checks applicable for the assigned program.
