A high school diploma or GED is required, and experience in a long-term healthcare setting is preferred. Starting rate $16 - $19 depending on experience and shift.

Position Summary 

The Personal Care Assistant is primarily responsible for providing assistance in the personal care of residents, housekeeping, ADL (Activities of Daily Living), meal and laundry service. 

Essential Functions 

  • Assist in personal care (dressing/undressing, toileting, tub bath/shower, nails, hair care, shaving, hygiene, help with prosthetic devices, dentures, artificial limbs, hearing aids) of residents as individually needed. 

  • Daily, or as needed: make or turn down beds, empty trash, replace toilet tissue, offer clean towels and straighten/tidy room. 

  • Change bed lined in designated rooms. 

  • Wash residents personal clothing and return them to the resident’s room in a neat and organized way. 

  • Serve meals as assigned and assist in resetting the tables. 

  • Maintain food safety guidelines while assisting in food storage, prep and cleanup. 

  • Communicate any changes in condition of the resident to the LPN and Administrator. Attend/provide input for care plans. 

  • Complete assignment sheets daily noting unusual events and care unable to be provided. 

  • Distribute reminders for appointments to residents as directed. 

  • Maintain appropriate communication with resident’s family members. 

  • Be mindful of fire and safety procedures. Respond appropriately to emergencies. 

  • Attend resident assistant meetings as schedule and participate in staff education/orientation programs and in-services. 

  • Assist residents to and from the dining room in a safe and organized manner. 

  • Maintain a clean neat atmosphere throughout the home on a daily basis. 

The above requirements are representative of minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities.  To perform this job successfully, the individual will possess the ability and aptitude to perform each duty proficiently. 

Educational and Other Requirements 

  1. High school diploma or GED required. 

  1. Experience in a long-term healthcare setting preferred. 

  1. Understanding of care of the elderly or chronically ill. 

  1. Understanding of the chain of command and accountability in all functions of the unit. 

  1. Must be dependable and willing to work as part of a team. 

  1. Must possess or have leadership skills in interdisciplinary staff development, and resident/family relationships. 

  1. Understanding of roles and functions of care staff and total health care team. 

  1. ServeSafe certification preferred. 

Physical Requirements  

The physical requirements represent those that an associate must meet to perform this job’s essential functions successfully. Reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions may be available.  

While performing the essential functions, the associate is standing, sitting, walking, talking, and hearing using repetitive motion and use of manual dexterity most of the time while frequently lifting, carrying, kneeling, handling, grasping, and feeling and occasionally pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, and reaching. 

The associate may be exposed to extreme cold, heat and frequent temperature changes and possible atmospheric conditions and hazards and frequent noise. The associate must have the ability to frequently exert force with little physical effort and for light work and occasional medium work.

  • OAPSA required FBI Fingerprints, National Sex Offender Registry, PA State Criminal History, PA Child Abuse and Physical assessment are required prior to hire and required every five years. Physical assessments will be required every two years.
