About Our Job

This internship offers the opportunity to gain experience in web development and SharePoint design while supporting how internal departments access and use operational information. The intern may also gain exposure to related business systems and tools, such as analytics dashboards, GIS (Geographic Information Systems) mapping applications, and CAFM (Computer-Aided Facility Management) platforms, which are often integrated with or supported through SharePoint and other internal web-based environments. Additional learning opportunities may be developed based on the intern’s interests and area of study.

Your internship will include impactful hands-on work within a department, networking, professional development, and building long lasting connections with other interns, mentors and Sarasota County team members.

Department Responsibilities:

  • SharePoint & Content Management – Maintain and update SharePoint pages, lists, libraries, and site content to ensure information is accurate, current, and accessible. Assist with content migration from legacy systems or shared drives and organize digital assets (documents, images, files) in a structured, user-friendly manner.
  • Web & Page Support – Perform basic web page updates using HTML, CSS, and limited JavaScript to improve content presentation, usability, and overall user experience, including layout, navigation, and readability enhancements.
  • Quality Assurance & Testing – Review and test site content across browsers and devices to identify and resolve broken links, formatting issues, outdated content, and functionality concerns.
  • SharePoint Administration & Automation Support – Assist with managing permissions, site structure, lists, libraries, workflows, forms, and basic Microsoft 365 automations.
  • Content Optimization & Standards – Apply formatting, accessibility, and content best practices while optimizing images and digital assets for performance and page load efficiency.
  • Collaboration & Support – Work with General Services team members to identify content and site update needs, support implementation, and assist with general web, SharePoint, and administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Monitoring & Documentation – Monitor site performance, escalate technical issues as needed, and develop simple process documentation and reference materials for routine tasks.

Operational Support / General Duties:

  • Assist in preparing updates, summaries, and status reports related to web and SharePoint tasks.
  • Provide general administrative support related to digital content management, file organization, and process documentation.
  • Participate in meetings, planning discussions, and project coordination efforts as needed.

Internship Program Responsibilities:

  • A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff is required at the close of the internship program on Friday, August 7, 2026.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ages 16-17 with parental consent, or 18 and above.
  • Eligible to work in the United States – we love local, national, and international students!
  • Active, enrolled student seeking a Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering (B.S.C.E.) or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates currently working toward a bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.

About Everything Else

  • Program Dates: The 2026 internship program will begin on May 18, 2026 and end on August 7, 2026.  
  • Internship Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
  • Pay Range: $15 per hour (high school student) up to $20 per hour (Grad/Masters student), based on your credit hours earned.
