About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern (Junior Year) to join our engineering team for a hands-on learning experience within an industrial equipment environment. This internship is designed for students who are eager to apply classroom concepts while learning directly from experienced engineers through guided, real-world project exposure. As an intern at Talos, you will work alongside mechanical engineers who will mentor you as you gain exposure to the design and development of material handling and conveyor systems. This role prioritizes learning, skill development, and professional growth and does not require prior industry experience.
In this role, you will…
· Assist engineers with the design and development of material handling systems under guidance.
· Support component selection activities, gaining exposure to motors, gearboxes, bearings, drives, and structural elements.
· Help prepare engineering documentation such as bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, and technical specifications.
· Work alongside engineering, manufacturing, and project management teams to understand cross-functional collaboration.
· Participate in design reviews and problem-solving discussions to learn how engineering decisions are made.
· Assist with testing, troubleshooting, and evaluation of system performance.
· Contribute ideas and support continuous improvement efforts for existing products and processes
Requirements
We’re excited about you because you…
· Are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
· Are in your Junior year of college
· Have a foundational understanding of mechanical engineering principles through coursework
· Have exposure to CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar tools
· Possess basic familiarity with mechanical components such as motors, bearings, chains, belts, and drives
· Are curious, eager to learn, and motivated to apply academic knowledge in a practical setting
· Can learn both independently and within a collaborative team environment
· Communicate clearly and stay organized while managing coursework and internship responsibilities
· Have an interest in material handling equipment, conveyors, or industrial machinery
Exposure to 3D CAD platforms, manufacturing processes, Excel, or basic engineering calculations is a plus.
