Qualifications

We are seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to assist with nursing care for patients of all ages under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The ideal candidate will have a technical certificate, BLS certification, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The LPN will administer medications, perform treatments, and work collaboratively with the nursing team to maintain high standards of patient care.

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse the LPN assists with nursing care for patients of all ages. Participates in patient/resident and family teaching and works in cooperation with ancillary nursing staff to maintain the standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.


Responsibilities

(50%)* Administers medications and performs treatments to assigned patient/residents and other technical skills within LPN license and training. Participates in team conferences and provides input to the Registered Nurse in the development of individualized nursing care plans. Reports changes in assessment, pertinent reactions and observations regarding patient/resident to the Registered Nurse and records these observations accurately and concisely. Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse development in patients/residents.

(25%)* Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and Nursing Department, including maintaining the patients bill of rights/Long Term Care Resident Rights.

(25%)* Accepts nursing care assignments and works as a member of the team. After initial assessment of the patient/resident by the Registered Nurse, continues to provide assessment of the patient/residents. Carries out appropriate nursing action as established by the Registered Nurse in the nursing plan of care. Participates in orientation of new personnel and performance evaluations of nursing staff.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates in quality improvement activities.

Participates in projects and committees as assigned.

Participates in staff meetings, in-service education programs, and other opportunities for learning.

Carries out work according to policies and procedures to reflect standard for timeliness and accuracy.

Participates in orientation of new staff.

Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

  • Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
  • Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
  • Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
  • Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
