Excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual that enjoys social services and the elderly. Universal Metro Asian Services is a Not-For-Profit organization that aims to serve immigrant populations of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Middle East, Latin America and Europe. UMAS is a small, family run organization. The perceptive employee would need to have experience with that or have experience wearing multiple hats. In addition, perceptive employee should be able to work autonomously, be a self-starter, and have initiative and lots of follow through.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, implement and review a monthly activity program designed to meet the physical, social and mental health needs and interests of adult day services center participants.
  • Coordinate staff/volunteer assigned to assist with activities.
  • Maintain necessary records including daily monthly charting and attendance records. Inventory and order activity supplies as well as keeping track of meals served on a daily basis.
  • Provide routine and specialized assistance to participants as needed, including assisting in the bathroom, lunch, snacks, and dressing.
  • Participate as a key member of the center’s inter-disciplinary team which includes nurse, social worker and program coordinator for formulating and updating care plans.
  • Attend staff meetings. Attend various outside meetings and activities for both professional growths, and to represent/promote the center in the community.
  • Observe report and chart any changes in participant behavior or physical condition.
  • Attend seminars, workshops, conferences and other professional activities to remain current in the field and fulfill continuing education requirements necessary to maintain licensing.
  • Other related duties as appropriate or assigned.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Bachelor's degree in human services, social work gerontology, activity therapy, recreation, physical therapy, art therapy or related field preferred. Associate degree acceptable.
  • Previous experience working with older adults or in an adult day care environment preferred.
  • Physical exam (no more than 6 months prior to employment)
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willing to be become certified
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills, including oral, written and presentation
  • Self-motivated, creative, flexible and results driven
  • Ability to be a productive team member/player

Additional qualifications include:

  • Being fluent in Hindi/Urdu or Guajarati preferred

Its aim to serve immigrant populations of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Middle East, Mexico and Europe. The organization received its first contract with Illinois Department on Aging(IDOA) to administer homecare services to ethnic seniors in 1993 via Universal Industries. Our Community Care program is unique. For the past three decades we have been at the forefront of meeting the requirements of the South Asian immigrant community and have since evolved to serve all communities. We are dedicated and determined to provide services to the elderly in their home rather than institutionalized in a nursing homes. We consider our participant's cultural and social preferences very carefully before assigning a Caregiver in order to best match their needs.
