POSITION TITLE: Recreation Assistant- Stewart

CLASSIFICATION:  Non-Exempt 

DEPARTMENT:  Recreation

SUPERVISOR: Recreation Activities Supervisor or Designated Community Council Supervisor

GRADE: NE7 $15.29 ($31,807.77) - $22.93 ($47,711.45)

Position Summary:

Under direct supervision the Recreation Assistant is responsible for performing general duties in the supervision of assigned youth and/or adult recreation activities. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

· Drives youths and/or adults in Community assigned vehicles to scheduled field trips. 

· Assists in maintenance of community center, performs general assigned duties cleaning lavatories, vacuuming, sweeping, etc.

· Assists in maintenance of Wellness Center, Community Park, and other Stewart Community Properties. Perform general assigned duties cleaning lavatories, setting up for events, maintaining exercise equipment, sweeping, mopping, etc. 

· Assists in maintenance of general outside duties, watering trees, weed control, maintaining playground equipment, etc. 

· Responsible for carrying out assigned administrative office duties, clerical duties, and receptionist duties for the Community Council, its programs and activities. 

· Oversees activities and be responsible for chaperoning participating youth for local events and field trips.

· Establishes and maintains record of community inventory, and all administrative files, reports and records. 

· Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with Tribal Officials, Community Residents, Community Officers and the general public. 

· Organizes, coordinates and evaluates a wide variety of youth activities, community events and programs.

· Greets visitors and answers the telephone system provided and directs calls to appropriate individuals, responds to general questions and requests for information from the public and Tribal members. 

· Takes messages for employees and/or elected officials. 

· Processes mail received and delivers it to designated individuals and causes to deliver outgoing mail to proper authority. 

· Performs typing, copying, and duplication functions for Community Council and administrative office personnel. 

· Prepares Community Council agendas and distributes it, prepares accurate typewritten minutes of Community Council meetings and maintains neat records of each file.

· Implements community vehicle use policy and community building use policy by receiving requests for vehicle(s) and/or building(s) use, schedules approved vehicle(s) and building(s) usage and maintains accurate schedule calendars for each use, and performs other related duties as required. 

· Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

· High School Diploma or GED and one year related experience; or combination of education and experience. Must possess and maintain a valid California or Nevada driver’s license or capable of obtaining one within thirty-days (30) of employment.

· Must be able to be insurable by the Tribe’s Driving Policy. 

· Must be certified in First Aid and CPR within 90 days of employment.

· Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.

· Preference will be given to Qualified Native American Indians.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:

· Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.

· Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.

· Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.

· Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner, building respect and confidence.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality.

· Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

· Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format.

· Ability to use general powered/hand tools, drills, shovel, rakes, screwdrivers, etc.

· Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to operate a motor vehicle; stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.

Work Environment:

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, and exposure to inclement weather conditions, relative to seasonal recreation activities and work assignments. Evening, weekend, and/or holiday work may be required and travel within and outside of the local area for field trips, conferences, and trainings. 

The Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California requires a background check of each new hire for employment purposes. Therefore, all conditionally offered positions will be subject to the following:

  • Obtain or possess a valid driver’s license for either the state      of Nevada or California within 30 days
