Job Title- Shop Technician

Function- Operations Support

Location- Broussard, LA

Reports to- Rotating Equipment/Shop Manager

The primary responsibility of a Shop Technician is to repair and maintain the equipment used for the daily production of oil and gas on an offshore production facility.  The Shop Technician is also responsible for monitoring and servicing systems, diagnosing problems and troubleshooting equipment, running tests and completing reports, and repairing faulty equipment. 

Knowledge, Skills & Capabilities

• Must be able to speak, read and write in English and have good communication skills

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and safe work practices 

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, volume, proportions, and discounts

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in the form of written, oral, or diagram form

• Ability to trouble shoot and diagnose equipment problems 

• Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools to perform a range of mechanically oriented functions including independent use of heavy-duty handheld and long-handled tools

• Basic computer skills a plus

Roles and Responsibilities 

• Inspect, analyze, test, measure, repair and perform full or partial overhauls on assemblies or subassemblies of a variety of decommissioning oilfield equipment.

• Responsible for performing disassembly and reassembly of equipment to operating condition and ensure that all equipment is fully operational prior to the mobilization to job site.

• Additional duties will include routine house cleaning of the year and shop spaces and equipment, cleaning equipment and moving equipment around the yard

• Perform all tests and repair in compliance with manufacturer’s service manuals

• Quality control of parts to determine whether they need to be repaired or replaced, ensuring all equipment and parts are clean and in good working order.

• Document inspections, test results, repair work done, and parts replaced for proper billing and record upkeep

• Ensure the yard and shop spaces are clean and organized

• Safely operate forklift to move equipment around the yard

• Participate in all required meetings, trainings, and development activities

• Participate in identifying safe and unsafe work practices

• Pressure washing of used equipment

• Buffing, painting and cleaning equipment

Strength and Force (minimal requirement)

This position will frequently require 10-50 lbs. of force and rarely require 50+ lbs. of force. 

Physical Demands

Requirements for this position more than 1/3 of the time while on the job (but not limited to):

Standing, walking, sitting, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, and hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel. 

Work Environment

The type of environment this position will be exposed to more than 1/3 of the time while on the job (but not limited to): Vibration, Fumes or airborne particles, work near moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions (other than weather), outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat (non-weather), and risk of electrical shock. 

Noise Environment

The amount of noise for this job is: Very Loud Noise (requires the use of ear plugs)
