Ameren Illinois provides electric transmission and distribution service and natural gas distribution service.  Duties

  • Under immediate supervision, working on a line construction or maintenance crew in the capacity of an apprentice for advancement to Journeyman Lineman 

  • Advance in such work in accordance with an orderly program, initially on unenergized circuits, and later on work on energized circuits ranging progressively from lower to maximum voltage 

  • Perform such work at first under the leadership of a Crew Leader or Line Foreman, and later independently after ability to perform each phase of the work skillfully and safely has been demonstrated; and to do similar and less skilled work as assigned. 

  • Load and unload equipment, material, job site debris and maintain housekeeping according to Ameren’s safety standards and procedures 

  • Dig trenches and holes in an ergonomically safe manner 

  • Perform construction work in the field, in all weather conditions, throughout the service territory 

  • Use and maintain various hand and power tools and equipment 

  • Must work in a team environment 
    Must work safely at all times as defined by Ameren's safety standards and procedures 

  • Develop and maintain familiarity with the operation and maintenance of the boom truck, digger and bucket truck and various pulling units 

  • Assist in digging holes and setting poles 

  • Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle 

  • Operate equipment and hydraulic tamp 

  • Prepare materials for each project including cutouts, arrestors and transformers 

  • Load and unload vehicles 

  • Prepare vehicles for daily projects 

  • Clean cover up materials, repair, clean and inspect tools on the vehicles 

  • Assist with material stocking, pulling of stock for projects 

  • Must not be afraid of heights 

  • Ability to maintain the security of confidential information 

  • Stay abreast of advances in technology 

Qualifications: 

  • As a condition of acceptance on this job, candidates who are otherwise qualified will be required to take and pass the appropriate State/Federal driver's licensing requirements, medical testing and drug screening, the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) test and the company apprentice Lineman Evaluations.  [Note: See "Employment Testing" section on  www.ameren.com/careers].   

  • This position is covered by the representative IBEW Local bargaining agreement. 

  • This position requires a 25 mile residency requirement 

  • This position may be required to work more than 40 hours per week and is subject to emergency storm work  

  • HS or GED required 

Hourly Pay:

Grade Step BC 004 Step 1 of 1 (Top Step) - 42.32 USD
