The Cleveland Museum of Natural History, founded in 1920, is located in the heart of University Circle, five miles east of downtown Cleveland, Ohio. Our scientists conduct research across a variety of disciplines, making groundbreaking discoveries about early human ancestors, ancient Ohio, animal and plant life around the world, and more. We steward more than 12,500 acres of wild habitats through our Natural Areas Program, working to protect the environment of northern Ohio and the diverse species that call it home.
The museum is seeking a dedicated professional to join our Facilities team.
Position Summary
The General Maintenance Technician conducts regular and preventative maintenance on building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and mechanical equipment. The Technician assists in troubleshooting Building Automation Systems and ensures proper operation of facility equipment. The Technician performs tasks such as lighting repairs, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, outdoor area maintenance, pest control, and seasonal snow and ice removal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of experience in commercial or industrial maintenance required. Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance required.
Completion of a 2-year technical degree, technical apprenticeship program, vocational school program in HVAC/R or plumbing, or commercial maintenance training program, or possession of a current State of Ohio Stationary Engineer’s License preferred.

Working Conditions
This position includes prolonged periods of standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, stooping, crouching, or crawling. May be exposed to inclement weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, elevated heights, and chemicals. Must be able to regularly lift and move up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
