Position Overview

The Compass Technology team is seeking a Software Engineering Summer Intern to support the Foodbuy technology platform. Our Foodbuy sector is a leading procurement organization focused on delivering strategic sourcing, analytics, and technology-driven solutions that optimize supply chain performance and create value for our partners.This internship provides hands-on experience developing enterprise applications using a modern technology stack including .NET (C#), AWS cloud services, PostgreSQL, and Angular/React front-end frameworks.

The intern will also have the opportunity to participate in AI Proof-of-Concept (POC) initiatives, leveraging tools such as KIRO and other AI platforms to explore use cases that enhance automation, analytics, and decision support within Foodbuy technologies.

This is a high-impact opportunity to contribute to production systems and innovation initiatives while learning enterprise software engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to development of backend services using .NET Core / C#
  • Assist in building and enhancing RESTful APIs and microservices deployed on AWS
  • Support front-end development using Angular and/or React
  • Work with PostgreSQL databases to design, query, and optimize data models
  • Participate in code reviews and Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, retrospectives)
  • Assist in implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Develop and test AI-driven POCs using KIRO and other AI tools to evaluate potential applications in:
    • Procurement automation
    • Data analysis and insights generation
    • Intelligent workflow enhancements
  • Document technical designs, POC findings, and implementation approaches
  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, and senior engineers
  • Support special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical discipline
  • Rising Junior or Senior (preferred)
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Coursework or hands-on experience in:
    • Object-oriented programming (C#, Java, or similar)
    • Web development concepts
    • Database systems

Technical Skills (Preferred but Not Required)

  • Experience with .NET / C#
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services
  • Understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
  • Exposure to Angular or React
  • Basic understanding of REST APIs and microservices architecture
  • Interest or exposure to AI/ML concepts or experimentation with AI tools
  • Familiarity with Git and version control
