The ideal candidates will be rising juniors or seniors pursuing a Bachelor's degree with excellent communication and problem-solving skills to support R&D process engineering.

Job Description

About Us:

Saras Micro Devices’ vision is to be a leading component and power delivery network solutions provider for semiconductor devices. To achieve this vision, Saras needs a talented, experienced senior-level capacitor engineer familiar with component manufacturing processes and materials, preferably focused on processes and materials used in the manufacturing of solid polymer foil capacitors. The role is a full-time, on-site position, and the candidate will be a critical member of our R&D team. The candidate will work on the development and characterization of passive component processes and materials.

Position Overview: The nature of this internship program is to support Saras Micro Devices with the execution of their product roadmap gate goals. Specifically, this internship will involve working with R&D Process Engineering to develop/improve current processes with a focus on scaling to low-volume manufacturing.

Intern Opportunity 1: (Computer Science) 

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and improving automation scripts to process electrical measurement data from testing equipment.
  • Organizing and standardizing electrical datasets to ensure compatibility with engineering analysis tools and databases.
  • Supporting the integration of measurement data with analysis platforms (e.g., JMP) to enable automated updates of engineering datasets
  • Improving existing data workflows to reduce manual data handling between measurement, analysis, and reporting.
  • Assisting in the development of infrastructure for electrical testing trackers, including organizing data related to testing status and backlog
  • Building data visualizations and dashboards that summarize electrical performance, testing progress, and operational metrics.
  • Testing and validating automation tools to ensure accuracy and reliability of processed data.
  • Documenting scripts, workflows, and data structures to support long-term maintainability and use by the engineering team.
  • Collaborating with engineers to identify opportunities to improve electrical testing efficiency and data accessibility.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and meeting summaries.
  • Participate in Team and department meetings.
  • Present progress updates and final project outcome

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in Bachelor (Junior/Senior Year)
  • Program Area of Study: Computer Science, Database Engineering
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the electrical characterization process for semiconductor capacitor devices and the key parameters used to evaluate device performance
  • Develop and improve automation scripts to process and organize electrical measurement data.
  • Design data workflows that connect measurement systems to analysis tools and engineering datasets.
  • Gain experience working with engineering data analysis platforms (such as JMP) and structured datasets used for statistical analysis.
  • Build data visualization tools and dashboards to communicate electrical results, testing progress, and operational metrics.
  • Apply software and data engineering practices to improve efficiency and reduce manual data handling in engineering workflows.
  • Document technical workflows and collaborate with engineers to implement data-driven improvements.
  • Demonstrate Saras Micro Devices’ values through work habits, teamwork, and initiatives.

Intern Opportunity 2: (Mechanical/Automation) 

Responsibilities:

  • Non-destructive thickness measurement methods (Keyence CL or other)
  • Shearing methods/tools for aluminum foil and FR4 cut outs
  • Dipping automation/standardization (panel cleaning (IPA/Sulfuric Acid), panel loading)
  • Testing automation for thin devices (Huntron, frequency, DCR, leakage current)
  • Mitutoyo recipes
  • Confocal Scanning Acoustic Microscopy (CSAM) integration/validation .
  • SEM automation for RCA (Maps software)
  • Dicing tape application (uniform pressing) and part removal
  • Vacuum chuck for screen printing on DEK tool Prepare reports, presentations, and meeting summaries.
  • Laser automation
  • Participate in Team and department meetings.
  • Present progress updates and final project outcome

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in Bachelor (Junior/Senior Year)
  • Program Area of Study: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop designs aiding the use thickness metrology
  • Understand wafer/dicing tape properties as well as mechanisms for removing passive components from tape.
  • Design data workflows that connect measurement systems to analysis tools and engineering datasets.
  • Gain experience working with engineering data analysis platforms (such as JMP) and structured datasets used for statistical analysis.
  • Build data visualization tools and dashboards to communicate electrical results, testing progress, and operational metrics.
  • Apply software and data engineering practices to improve efficiency and reduce manual data handling in engineering workflows.
  • Document technical workflows and collaborate with engineers to implement data-driven improvements.

Intern Opportunity 3: (Data Engineer)

Responsibilities:

  • Optimize Schema: Audit and refine the existing MySQL database structure to ensure efficient storage of production and test data
  • Structural Development: Build and maintain relational tables for manufacturing entities including panels, laminates, stacks, devices, and test results.
  • Automated Ingestion: Build Python scripts to parse, clean, and format raw measurement data from CSV and Excel source
  • Spatial Mapping: Develop logic to map device-level results to specific panel coordinates.
  • Dashboard Creation: Use Plotly Dash to build interactive web components for real-time production monitoring
  • Visual Analytics: Design interactive plots, yield visualizations, and panel heatmaps to identify performance trends
  • Traceability Logic: Create data links that track a component’s lifecycle from raw Panel → Laminate → Stack → Finished Device.
  • Metadata Integration: Record process step metadata and associate test results with specific manufacturing parameters
  • Code Quality: Refactor scripts to improve modularity and adhere to clean-code standards.
  • Technical Documentation: Produce comprehensive documentation for the database schema and all automation scripts.
  • Participate in Team and department meetings.
  • Present progress updates and final project outcome
