General Summary

IT Intern
Hourly Rate: $18.61 - $21.71
Location: Waterford, MI - Hybrid (2 days in office, 3 days remote per week)

*The position would be for the Summer of 2026, working 5 days per week, however some flexibility may be given in schedule for actively enrolled students taking summer courses.

SUMMARY:
Oakland County IT is looking for an Enterprise Data & Analytics Intern to support the County’s emerging data and analytics initiatives. This position will assist in developing foundational capabilities for managing, analyzing, and leveraging county data to support operational insights, transparency, and improved public services across County departments.

The intern will contribute to early-stage efforts related to data collection, data analysis, and exploration of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics tools. This role provides hands-on experience working with real government data and participating in initiatives that help modernize how the county uses information for decision-making.

Essential job functions will include:
• Work with IT staff and department stakeholders to understand business data needs and reporting requirements.
• Participate in early AI and advanced analytics exploration, including evaluating potential use cases for automation, predictive insights, and improved service delivery.
• Support data collection, data integration, and data preparation from various county applications and systems.
• Conduct basic data analysis and exploratory analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improved reporting.
• Help develop dashboards, visualizations, and reports that support county leadership and departmental operations.

Preferred Qualifications (Also see minimum qualifications below):

1. Excellent communication, both written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate technical findings clearly to non-technical staff
2. Demonstrate critical thinking skills and a proactive mindset
3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
4. Proficiency in MS Office products, Python and/or SQL, SSIS reporting(or similar reporting tool)
5. Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI and cloud data platforms such as MS Azure and AWS

Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS & ABILITIES

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must meet one of the following educational requirements:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university with status as a junior/senior student

  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university in a graduate degree program

2. Pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, or closely related field.

3.      Possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Considerable ability to assimilate and apply knowledge learned on the job and in formal classroom training.

  • Considerable knowledge of and ability to utilize current word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and Internet software.

  • Reasonable knowledge of the use of drafting tools and/or personal computers and software.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to communicate to accurately convey information.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a typical office environment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffer’s license.

Maintain enrollment and active course work in an accredited program for a major specified under Minimum Qualifications.
