LUMBERMAN

Job Summary:

The lumberman loads and unloads building materials and other incoming materials for delivery or storage. This position is occasionally referred to as a Load Builder.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None.

Primary Duties/ Responsibilities:

• Load and unload lumber, plywood, and building materials manually or with equipment.

• Cut, stack, sort, and band lumber as needed according to customer or yard specifications.

• Assist customers with locating and loading materials in a professional and courteous manner.

• Operate forklifts, saws, and other yard equipment safely and efficiently.

• Maintain a clean and organized yard area, ensuring clear walkways and proper material storage.

• Inspect lumber for quality, identifying defects and reporting damaged stock.

• Follow all company safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Assist with inventory counts and restocking as needed.

• Collaborate with team members to fulfill orders accurately and in a timely manner.

• Adheres to company policies and work requirements.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• The ability to read, write, understand, and relay, written and verbal instructions.

•   Previous experience in a lumber yard or similar physical labor role is a plus.

• The ability to operate various types of material handling equipment including hand trucks, pallet jacks, and forklifts when needed.
• Basic knowledge of lumber grades, sizes, and uses preferred.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months of related experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• This position requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, while working either indoors or outdoors.
• Must be in adequate physical condition to perform requirements such as mental, physical and manual dexterity, hand/grip strength, depth perception and any other physical attributes that enable the employee to perform the job safely according to all Company, Local, State, and Federal regulations and requirements.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 75 pounds regularly.
• Ability to push/pull up to 75 pounds regularly.
• Must wear prescribed personal protective equipment when handling material or operating equipment. 

Other Requirements:

• Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment and required drug screens as requested.
• Must be able to successfully pass a Physical Capacity Assessments as requested.
