Position Summary

As the Baker / Laminator at Good Ambler, you will be responsible for producing laminated breakfast pastries, quick breads, and other baked goods. This role is based at our new Good Ambler location opening in the 2 N Riverside building. This role requires early morning start times (3–4 AM depending on the day) and some weekend availability. The Baker / Laminator must be able to work independently, move efficiently through tasks while maintaining quality, and support the team in all areas of production.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Consistently producing and finishing laminated pastries like croissants and danishes to a high standard
  • Baking croissants and breakfast pastries each morning.
  • Producing cookies, cakes, jams, custards, and other dessert components.
  • Preparing and serving items from the café and grab and go menus
  • Supporting general kitchen operations, including cleaning, dishwashing, trash removal, sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing.
  • Collaborating with the team and assisting in other tasks as needed.

Requirements

About You: 

  • 1+ years of professional pastry experience or completion of pastry school.
  • Must be able to reliably work 3–4 am start times, including some weekend days.
  • Lamination experience preferred; but must be flexible to learn new or different techniques to maintain consistency
  • Food Handler’s certification required.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality products.
  • Communicates effectively, works well both independently and as part of a team, and is adaptable, open to feedback, and committed to learning and growth.
  • Comfortable working safely around potential allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, eggs, dairy, etc.).
  • Able to stand and walk for up to 10 hours per day and lift/carry up to 50 lbs. with frequent repetitive movements (e.g., scooping, spreading, piping).

Position Details & Benefits:

  • Job Type: Full-time, Hourly (30+ hours/week)
  • Compensation: $20–$24 per hour, depending on experience
  • Paid leave and paid sick leave in accordance with Chicago requirements.
