Job Description

We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. What will you make today?

As part of our Manufacturing team, you’ll help build the world-class, state-of-the-art smart vehicles we're known for. In our plants around the world, we’re constantly developing new technologies and processes to further increase our efficiency. You'll get the satisfaction of making great products people use and love.

In This Role…

You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of in-plant packaging and material handling solutions, serving as a critical link between production, suppliers, and material handling teams to ensure optimal part quality, operator safety, and lean manufacturing efficiencies.

What You’ll Do…

Packaging Design & Implementation

  • Approval Management: Coordinate production team approvals for all supplier-owned and in-process packaging, ensuring dunnage meets form, fit, and function requirements.
  • Containerization: Lead the conversion of cardboard to returnable dunnage and manage the lifecycle of Ford-owned containers, including maintenance and repair.
  • Supplier Liaison: Act as the primary contact between the plant and suppliers to resolve packaging quality concerns and ensure compliance with Ford packaging guidelines.

Material Handling & Floor Operations

  • Workstation Optimization: Collaborate with Material Handling and production teams to optimize line-side material delivery and presentation.
  • Equipment Procurement: Specify, purchase, and coordinate the installation of Material Handling (MH) line-feed equipment.
  • Facility Layout: Develop layout proposals for unique operations, line rebalances, and dunnage storage/return strategies.

Financial & Data Administration

  • Strategic Planning: Conduct cost studies, manage capital improvement budget projects, and forecast packaging and MH equipment requirements.
  • Data Integrity: Administer Plant CMMS3 packaging data, ensuring accuracy of all supplier packaging information.
  • Procurement: Utilize CPARS to initiate purchase orders and manage department spending.

Safety, Quality, & Continuous Improvement

  • Lean Manufacturing: Participate in Kaizen planning and execution initiatives.
  • Safety & Ergonomics: Actively participate in local Ergonomics and PMHV committees to improve traffic flow and eliminate packaging-related safety risks.
  • Quality Control: Initiate corrective actions for part quality concerns related to dunnage or handling.

You'll have...

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or Supply Chain/Logistics.
  • 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment (internship and/or co-op experience considered).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to travel up to 10% as needed (typically 1-3 days within U.S./Canada/Mexico).

Even better, you may have...

  • Working knowledge of Teamcenter Engineering.
  • CATIA V5 experience.
  • Fabrication knowledge of steel and aluminum racking.
  • Experience deploying packaging solutions that interface with automation.
  • Experience with vacuum form and injection molded dunnage.
