Are you a motivated college student seeking hands-on experience in the maritime industry? Saltchuk Marine Towage offers an exciting internship opportunity for individuals eager to support our Harbor Fleet Services ship assist dispatch team.

As an intern, you will be vital in coordinating the operations of California's largest fleet of tugboats. Your responsibilities will include assisting the dispatch team in bringing some of the world's largest seagoing vessels into port and ensuring safety protocols and schedules are followed.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Harbor Fleet Services (HFS) staff to efficiently coordinate the movement of tugboats and other resources within the ports of LA/Long Beach and San Francisco.
  • Receive incoming orders and job changes from multiple sources, accurately input them into the dispatch system, and deploy assets in alignment with operational requirements.
  • Assist in resolving operational challenges and adapting to changes in vessel schedules or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Support the implementation of safety protocols and ensure compliance with maritime regulations during vessel movements and operations.
  • Collaborate with team members to optimize resource utilization and enhance operational efficiency within the fleet.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication channels with tugboat crews, clients, and internal stakeholders to facilitate smooth operations.
  • Contribute to continuously improving dispatch processes and procedures, suggesting innovative solutions to enhance workflow efficiency.
  • Undertake ad hoc tasks and projects as directed by management to support the overall objectives of Harbor Fleet Services.

Compensation: Pay for this position will be $22 per hour.

Working Conditions: This job will involve working in an office environment.

Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited college with a minimum of 1 year of college credits completed.
