Job Description

Our Enterprise Control Framework monitors business events across State Street and CRD platforms, enforces business controls throughout the client data management lifecycle, and ensures the highest data quality standards as part of our Alpha Data Services offering. The framework includes automated controls and workflows designed to validate data quality, eliminate manual processing, reduce operational risk, and promote transparency across operational processes for both internal stakeholders and clients.

As the Control Framework continues to evolve, this role will play a key part in transitioning existing controls to a new strategic platform, as well as rationalizing the current control inventory to ensure controls remain effective, relevant, and aligned to business objectives.

The Alpha Data Services Product Development team is seeking an individual with strong SQL development skills, exposure to data management concepts, and an interest in understanding and improving operational processes that support State Street’s Alpha Front-to-Back data service offering.

The intern will partner with clients, Operations, Product, and Technology teams to identify key data validations, assess existing controls, and participate in requirements analysis, implementation, and adoption of enterprise control and monitoring solutions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain data validation logic within the Enterprise Control Framework, including controls transitioning to a new strategic platform

  • Support the migration of existing controls, ensuring functional parity, improved performance, and adherence to updated platform standards

  • Perform control rationalization activities, including:

  • Assessing the original business purpose and risk addressed by existing controls

  • Evaluating whether controls remain necessary, redundant, or obsolete

  • Reviewing control logic, thresholds, and documentation for clarity, effectiveness, and efficiency

  • Partner with Operational and Product teams to redesign or retire controls where appropriate, applying continuous improvement principles

  • Participate in business requirement elaboration and functional design sessions to understand operational workflows, data flows, and source systems

  • Assist Operational teams in building and maintaining checklists, alerts, and event-monitoring workflows within the Control Framework platform

  • Conduct interviews, develop user stories, and perform workflow and impact analysis

  • Contribute to the definition of reporting and monitoring solutions that enable Operations to make timely, risk-informed decisions

  • Perform business user acceptance testing and validation of control outcomes

  • Provide production support and troubleshooting for existing controls, workflows, and dashboards

  • Deliver demos, walkthroughs, and training sessions for stakeholders on new or enhanced controls and platform capabilities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Masters in Business, Accounting, Finance, MIS, Information Technology, or a related field

  • Strong SQL skills with experience developing, querying, and troubleshooting complex logic

  • Experience querying data on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Snowflake)

  • Exposure to data management concepts, including data quality, lineage, reconciliation, or ETL processes

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail

  • Ability to independently investigate issues, gather supporting evidence, and articulate findings clearly

  • Familiarity with LEAN, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies strongly preferred

  • Prior experience with BI or reporting tools (e.g., Spotfire, Tableau, Looker, Information Builders) a plus

  • Database management or ETL development experience a plus

  • Asset management or investment operations experience a plus

  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a time-driven environment
