Hiring Range: $57,636 - $69,160 Annually

The Data Analyst I plays a crucial role in supporting data-driven decision-making and contributing to the enhancement of program initiatives. This position involves applying fundamental informatics principles, techniques, and data analysis methodologies to generate meaningful reports. The incumbent's responsibilities include ensuring data accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations, utilizing basic data analysis techniques, and assisting in the development of data visualizations. Effective collaboration within cross-functional teams, clear communication, and a basic understanding of data analysis tools are essential for success in this role.

This is an in-office position located in Tucson, AZ, and cannot be remote. The Justice Services Department is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts data analysis using established tools and techniques to extract insights from datasets;

  • Creates clear and effective data visualizations, such as charts and graphs, to communicate findings to stakeholders;

  • Ensures data accuracy and reliability by implementing basic quality assurance procedures;

  • Develops and produces routine reports and summaries based on data for internal and external stakeholders;

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including professionals and data experts, to support department initiatives and projects;

  • Maintains documentation of data analysis processes, data sources, and methodologies used for future reference;

  • Adheres to data security protocols and assists in safeguarding sensitive data;

  • Stays informed about industry trends and emerging technologies related to data analysis through continuous learning and training;

  • Provides support to more senior analysts on data analysis projects, including data collection, data cleaning, and basic project management tasks;

  • Responsible for other duties as assigned in support of the overall goals and functions of both the Human Resources Department and Pima County.


Minimum Qualifications:  

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college, university or technical trade school with a major in computer science, computer engineering, management information systems (MIS), or a closely-related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment AND one year of business analysis or related technical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in data analysis or program evaluation within justice systems or the public sector.

  • Experience with various statistical analysis methods.

  • Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., STATA, SPSS).

Selection Procedure: 
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.      

Supplemental Information: 


Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.   

Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Some positions may require completion of a satisfactory personal background investigation by the court or law enforcement agencies, due to the need for access to County Attorney and Court facilities, records, and communication systems. The Justice Services Department is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Physical/Sensory Requirements: Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment. Constantly observes details at close range. Frequently remains in a stationary position.
