Job Description

Connexus Energy is seeking an effective decision-maker and problem-solver to join our System Operations Team. As a System Operator you will analyze, coordinate, and direct complex distribution outage restoration efforts and switching procedures with line crews and other personnel. In addition, you will respond to customer calls and monitor distribution system performance. Your goal as a System Operator is to ensure safe, reliable electrical service for our customers. This is an opportunity to work a non-traditional 24/7 schedule of rotating 13.33-hour shifts in our secure Control Center.

Compensation: 

The anticipated hiring pay for the system operator trainee is $38.86. The full-scale rate for a system operator is $59.79 after one year of training per hour in accordance with the union contract. In addition, this position is eligible for an annual bonus with a target payout of 5% of annual earnings based on company performance.  


In this position, you will:

  • Communicate and work effectively with other departments and the community to accurately respond to distribution system issues.
  • Create system switching orders and operational procedures for planned and emergency situations to ensure safe operation of the distribution system.
  • Coordinate line crews during normal and escalated operations to restore service safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor the performance of the electrical distribution system, remotely control system devices, and respond to disturbances and alarms.

Need to have:

  • High School or General Equivalency Diploma
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems and equipment
  • Ability to remain calm and make decisions in stressful and/or complex situations
  • Ability to clearly communicate, hear, and understand communications over the telephone and radio
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work with a focus on safety and efficiency
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to work fully rotating 24/7 schedule of 13.33-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays

Nice to have:

  • Two or four year technical degree or equivalent experience of electrical distribution systems and equipment.
  • Experience with electrical distribution systems, mapping, and construction techniques
  • Experience with Control Center applications such as OMS, SCADA, and GIS
