Location: Remote/Hybrid (Opportunity to work onsite in Hartsville, SC)

Role Overview: 

As a Data Analytics Intern, you will work alongside the Governance, Risk, and Compliance team  to develop data-driven dashboards that enhance risk identification, operational efficiency and strategic decision-making across Sonoco’s global business units. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for data analytic and reporting dashboards 

• Gather data from multiple sources such as SQL databases, Excel files, cloud platforms, APIs, and enterprise systems 

• Apply time intelligence functions (YTD, MTD, rolling averages, etc.) 

• Build interactive visually compelling Power BI reports and dashboards 

• Select appropriate visuals (charts, tables, maps, KPIs) for different analytics needs 

• Enable drill-throughs, tooltips, bookmarks, and slicers for self-service analysis 

• Analyze trends, variances, anomalies, and performance against KPIs 

• Document findings, create presentations, and share results with stakeholders 

Qualifications 

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related field 

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 

• Experience with Python, R, SQL, or similar programming languages 

• Experience with data visualization tool Power BI 

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills 

• Ability to work independently and in a team setting 

• Prior internship or project experience in analytics is a plus 

Learning Outcomes:  

• Business Context & Communication – learn how to translate and communicate technical findings into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders 

• Power BI Report Development & Visualization -  learn to design and build interactive dashboards and reports in Power BI using appropriate visuals, filters, and slicers 

• Power BI Data Modeling & DAX – learn how to create efficient data models and write basic to intermediate DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for calculated columns, measures, and KPIs
