Description

The Summer Camp Director is responsible for leading and supporting a team of Summer Camp Counselors while creating a safe, fun, and enriching environment for campers and ensuring their overall well-being. This role oversees the planning, preparation, and supervision of daily games and activities that promote positive social interaction while adhering to the MPCC Camp Schedule. The Summer Camp Director is expected to demonstrate strong leadership, customer service, professionalism, creativity, and organizational skills throughout each day of camp.

The Director should be available most weekdays (Monday–Friday) from June 15 through August 14, with a paid orientation and training session possibly required prior to June 15. Camp operates between 8:00am and 5:30pm, including pre- and post-care, with shifts scheduled within these hours; however, the Director will rarely be required to work the full open-to-close day. This position is anticipated to average approximately 40 hours per week and includes the opportunity for an end-of-summer bonus based on performance and program needs.

Requirements

  • Supervise and support camp staff, create schedules, and ensure all standards and safety protocols are met.
  • Assist Youth & Activities Director in the interviewing, hiring, and training of camp counselor staff.
  • Work with Youth & Activities Director to establish camp programming including themes, schedules, activities, and more.
  • Recommend to Youth & Activities Director new ideas for camp programs, supplies, and improvements, maintaining a dynamic and safe camp experience.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of campers throughout the property by adhering to all health, safety, and first aid procedures, including pool safety, proactively preventing accidents.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate activities and events, ensuring a fun and educational environment.
  • Lead, supervise, and actively engage with campers in play and activities.
  • Establish and maintain positive and upbeat relationships, ensuring professional, effective communication and exceptional customer service to both campers and their parents. Greet campers and parents by name in a friendly manner.
  • Monitor camper behavior and resolve conflicts firmly but fairly, using appropriate disciplinary methods.
  • Provide timely updates to parents regarding their child’s camp experience, addressing needs and preferences.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of camp environment, including bathroom monitoring and meal supervision. Handle camp materials responsibly, ensuring proper storage and care after use.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead a team and work with camp counselors in a supportive manner.
  • Team player and leader who ensures quality service and positive camp environment.
  • Must be available for all camp weeks.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One or more years experience working in summer camp.
  • Valid First Aid and Infant/Child CPR Certifications or the ability to be certified prior to the beginning of camp.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, fluent in English.
  • Ability to work outside during the hot summer season.
  • Final candidates will be subject to a background screening.
