Bloomsbury is seeking a Spring Editorial Intern for its Adult Trade team. The intern will assist our close knit team of editors in the publication of both literary/upmarket fiction and general nonfiction. Please note that interns will not be working with Sarah J. Maas titles nor YA/Children’s books. Bloomsbury is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and we encourage candidates of all backgrounds to apply. Responsibilities: 

Since we are a small team, interns play an integral role in our day-to-day operations. Intern projects reflect the diverse aspects of trade publishing, including:

  • Promptly reading, evaluating, and discussing manuscripts and proposals (both fiction and nonfiction)
  • Attending editorial meetings, season launches, check-ins, and other meetings as necessary
  • Leading our literary award submission process
  • Conducting research and contributing to metadata
  • Assisting, as needed, with mailings, copyright processes, and drafting of materials 
  • Other duties as assigned

Wage: $18.00/hr

Duration: This position runs from April 7 – June 11 with the opportunity for extension.

Time commitment: We require a commitment of a maximum 28 hours per week. Availability must include the core hours of 10:00-4:00 Monday-Thursday.

Location:  Candidates must reside in the NY tri-state area, and be able to work in person at our midtown Manhattan office 2 days per week.

Interns will have the opportunity to attend programming designed to introduce them to the various departments within Bloomsbury, provide them with networking opportunities, and prepare them for the job application process.

We are looking for a creative and motivated individual who ideally has the following skills: 

  • High level of familiarity with Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Firm grasp of grammar and spelling, with a keen eye for detail
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently
  • Strong communication skills suitable for a fast-paced, professional environment
  • Detail-oriented, able to manage their own time, and highly organized
  • Demonstrable interest in contemporary literature and publishing
