Description

The Claims & Compliance Associate plays a critical support role within Edge Logistics’ Claims & Compliance department. This position is primarily focused on cargo claims support, including intake, documentation, follow-up, and coordination with internal teams, carriers, and insurers to ensure claims are handled accurately and in a timely manner, in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Secondarily, the role supports carrier compliance and vetting activities, including insurance verification, documentation audits, and risk reviews. This is a developing role designed to grow over time, offering exposure to claims management, carrier risk, fraud prevention, and transportation compliance.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, coachable, professional in communication, and comfortable working in a fast-paced logistics environment with evolving processes.

Key Responsibilities

Claims Support (Primary Responsibility)

  • Receive and log new cargo claim notices; open and maintain claim files in internal systems and shared trackers.
  • Request, collect, and organize required claim documentation from internal teams and external parties, including:
    • Signed BOLs and PODs
    • Photos of damage, loss, or theft
    • Customer invoices and supporting documentation
    • Police reports, incident reports, or statements
  • Assist with incident and accident investigations by gathering facts, documentation, and timelines (non-legal, fact-finding support).
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date claim files with documented follow-up activity.
  • Assist in preparing and issuing formal claim notices to carriers and their insurers.
  • Track carrier and insurer response deadlines and support compliance with regulatory timelines (e.g., 49 CFR Part 370).
  • Communicate professionally with internal stakeholders, customers, carriers, drivers, and insurance contacts via Teams, phone, and written correspondence.

Compliance & Carrier Vetting Support (Secondary Responsibility)

  • Support carrier vetting by reviewing carrier profiles and compliance data using tools such as Highway, Carrier411, SAFER, and related platforms.
  • Assist with carrier insurance verification and documentation review.
  • Conduct load and carrier audits to ensure compliance with internal policies and customer requirements.
  • Make outbound calls to carriers to support Risk & Compliance reviews and Corrective Action Plan (CAP) assessments.
  • Collaborate with Carrier Sales, Operations, Track & Trace, and other internal teams to support security, safety, and compliance initiatives.
  • Assist with resolving compliance-related escalations under the direction of Compliance leadership.

Process Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of SOPs, templates, and internal tracking tools.
  • Identify recurring issues, delays, or documentation gaps, and escalate trends to leadership.
  • Participate in regular check-ins with U.S.- and Colombia-based team members to align, provide feedback, and support training.

Requirements

Qualifications

Required

  • 1+ year experience in either transportation freight claims, auto claims, logistics operations, transportation compliance, or freight brokerage compliance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to follow established procedures.
  • Comfortable working across multiple systems, shared folders, and tracking tools.
  • Coachable, adaptable, and receptive to feedback in a growing environment.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Periodic availability to assist with after-hours incident response, as needed.

Preferred

  • Experience with cargo claims, OS&D, and accident handling.
  • Familiarity with FMCSA regulations or 49 CFR Part 370.
  • Prior exposure to carrier vetting, insurance verification, or risk/compliance roles.
  • Experience working with offshore or remote teams.

    • Carrier Sales Representatives (U.S. & Colombia)
    • Account Managers (U.S.)
    • Carrier Risk Associates & Specialists (Colombia)
    • Track & Trace teams (Colombia)
    • External carriers, drivers, and insurance representatives

Performance Expectations

  • Claim files are opened, updated, and organized within 24–48 hours of intake.
  • Routine follow-up is documented every 7–14 business days until resolution.
  • Carrier documents reviewed and escalated in accordance with compliance guidelines.
  • Clear, professional communication with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to adapt as processes, tools, and responsibilities evolve.
