By applying to this position, your application will only be considered for Amazon Leo Solutions Architect (SA) internship roles. Applicants should have a minimum of one quarter/semester/trimester remaining in their studies after their internship concludes.

Amazon internships are full-time positions, and interns should expect to work in-office Monday-Friday, up to 40 hours per week typically between 8am-5pm. Specific team norms around working hours will be communicated by your manager. Interns should not have conflicts such as classes or other employment during the Amazon work-day.

You will be able to provide your preference of location and start date during the application process but, we cannot guarantee that we can meet your selection based on several factors including but not limited to the availability and business needs of this role. Key job responsibilities
Network Resiliency for LEO Networks
- Design and implement network resiliency strategies for Low Earth Orbit satellite communication systems
- Analyze network performance under various failure scenarios and develop mitigation strategies
- Evaluate end-to-end network reliability and identify single points of failure
- Develop redundancy mechanisms and failover protocols for seamless service continuity
- Research and implement adaptive routing strategies for dynamic LEO satellite topologies
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance network robustness and availability
SD-WAN Implementation and Optimization
- Work with Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) architectures forsatellite communication systems
- Design and test SD-WAN policies for intelligent traffic routing across multiple satellite links
- Implement dynamic path selection algorithms based on link quality, latency, and availability
- Evaluate SD-WAN performance in LEO network environments with frequent topology changes
- Develop configuration templates and automation scripts for SD-WAN deployment
- Analyze SD-WAN telemetry data to optimize network performance and resource utilization
TCP Optimization for Satellite Links
- Implement and evaluate TCP optimization techniques for high-latency, high-bandwidth satellite links
- Research and test TCP variants (TCP BBR, TCP CUBIC, etc.) for LEO network environments
- Develop performance enhancement proxies (PEPs) to improve TCP throughput over satellite links
- Analyze TCP congestion control behavior during satellite handovers
- Optimize TCP parameters (window size, congestion window, retransmission timeouts) for LEO characteristics
- Measure and document TCP performance improvements across various network conditions
Handover Time Optimization
- Design and implement handover time optimization strategies for LEO satellite networks
- Measure handover latency, packet loss, and service disruption during satellite transitions
- Develop predictive handover algorithms using satellite ephemeris data and user mobility patterns
- Implement make-before-break handover mechanisms to minimize service interruptions
- Optimize handover decision criteria based on signal strength, link quality, and satellite visibility windows
- Analyze handover performance across different user scenarios and network loads
- Collaborate on reducing handover disruption through protocol-level optimizations
Network Measurement and Analysis
- Conduct comprehensive network measurement campaigns to characterize LEO network performance
- Measure key performance indicators including latency, jitter, packet loss, throughput, and availability
- Deploy and configure network monitoring tools and telemetry collection systems
- Analyze network traces to identify performance bottlenecks and anomalies
- Develop custom measurement scripts and tools for satellite-specific metrics
- Create dashboards and visualization tools for real-time network performance monitoring
- Generate detailed performance reports with actionable insights and recommendations
Automation and Scripting
- Develop automation scripts for network configuration, testing, and performance evaluation
- Create Python/Bash scripts for automated network testing and data collection
- Implement continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for network testing
- Automate network topology changes and failure injection for resiliency testing
- Build automated test frameworks for regression testing of network optimizations
- Develop tools for automated analysis of network performance data
Simulation Environments
- Design and implement simulation environments for LEO satellite network testing
- Build network simulators using tools such as ns-3, OMNeT++, or custom simulation frameworks
- Model LEO satellite constellation dynamics, orbital mechanics, and visibility windows
- Simulate various network scenarios including congestion, failures, and handovers
- Validate simulation results against real-world measurements
- Optimize simulation parameters for accuracy and computational efficiency
- Document simulation methodologies and maintain version control of simulation code
Antenna Hardware Testing
- Conduct comprehensive hardware testing of antenna systems to validate performance specifications
- Develop and execute test protocols for antenna characterization and performance validation
- Analyze test data and generate detailed reports on antenna performance metrics
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot hardware issues and optimize antenna designs
Field of View (FOV) Testing
- Design and implement Field of View testing procedures for antenna systems
- Measure and analyze antenna coverage patterns and beam characteristics
- Document FOV test results and provide recommendations for design improvements
- Support the development of automated FOV testing frameworks
Antenna Resiliency Design
- Contribute to the design of resilient antenna systems capable of operating in challenging environments
- Evaluate antenna performance under various stress conditions and environmental factors
- Research and propose design modifications to enhance antenna durability and reliability
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical input on resiliency requirements
MATLAB Modeling and Simulation
- Develop MATLAB models to simulate antenna performance and behavior
- Create simulation scripts for antenna pattern analysis, link budget calculations, and system-level performance evaluation
- Validate simulation results against experimental data
- Optimize simulation workflows for efficiency and accuracy
- Document modeling methodologies and maintain version control of simulation code

No matter the location of your internship, we give you the tools to own your internship and learn in a real-world setting. Basic Qualifications: - Are 18 years of age or older
- Work 40 hours/week minimum and commit to 12 week internship maximum
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or highter in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with a conferral date between December 2026 and June 2028
- Strong foundation in engineering fundamentals and problem-solving skills
- Strong understanding of computer networks including TCP/IP, routing protocols, and network architectures
- Knowledge of wireless systems and RF communication principles
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C/C++, or Java
- Proficiency in MATLAB programming and scripting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with antenna testing equipment and RF measurement tools
- Familiarity with antenna design principles and electromagnetic simulation tools
- Knowledge of mechanical design software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar)
- Previous internship or project experience in hardware testing
- Experience with data analysis and visualization tools
- Experience with SD-WAN technologies and software-defined networking concepts
- Understanding of TCP optimization techniques and transport layer protocols
- Knowledge of satellite communication systems and LEO network characteristics
- Experience with network measurement tools (Wireshark, iperf, tcpdump, etc.)
- Familiarity with automation frameworks and scripting for network testing
- Experience with network simulation environments (ns-3, OMNeT++, MATLAB, etc.)
- Understanding of handover protocols and mobility management in wireless networks
- Knowledge of Linux networking stack and network programming
- Experience with network performance analysis and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud networking
- Understanding of Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms and traffic engineering
- Previous internship or project experience in networking or wireless communications
