Location: New Rochelle, NY

Hours: Flexible with the following time frame, Monday – Friday 6am – 1:45pm

Pay: Unpaid

Our CASAC interns work with clients suffering from substance misuse disorders in our outpatient Program Clinic in Mt. Vernon, Westchester County. CASAC interns apply their knowledge of substance use disorders and that of co-occurring disorders. You will evaluate and monitor clients, screen for signs and symptoms of substance use disorders, provide support during recovery, and implement treatment plans, offer emotional support.  The CASAC interns adhere to the NYS OASAS Scope of Practice Rules and are involved in the 12 Core Functions of an Addiction Counselor when working with agency clients and the community.

This position requires that applicants be enrolled in an education and training program that will grant them credit hours for their internship.  Applicants must also be CASAC(T) students.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs substance use assessments, collaborates with case managers to identify mutually agreed upon long and short-term substance use related goals and develop a comprehensive service plan.
  • Provides substance use counseling and support services to clients.
  • Facilitates weekly substance use groups including harm reduction and relapse prevention.
  • Performs crisis intervention, assessment, advocacy, referral, and case planning.
  • Participates in weekly supervision with his/her supervisor, teem meetings and case reviews.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONAL / ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT:

  • Patriciate in weekly supervision.
  • Additional assignments may be determined at a future date.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and competency at all times.
  • Excellent communication skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Current CASAC(T) student.

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to perform the job's essential functions successfully.
