Job Description

This is an unpaid internship.

The Healthy Living Internship position is designed to provide an experiential learning environment for individuals seeking to learn and grow in the field of wellness, culinary arts and communications. The intern will have the opportunity to explore multiple endeavors while spending time at the Cabarrus Health Alliance. Healthy Living Interns are asked to be engaged, share ideas, and have an open mind while learning and working.

Education/Experience: Pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public health, health education, nutrition/dietetics, or human services preferred

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate cooking demonstrations for our Kids in the Kitchen series 
  • Develop and organize content for our Healthy Living social marketing campaign
  • Implement programming for employees to increase mindfulness and stress management
  • Assist with planning and implementing our agency wide walking challenge and other health challenges
  • Support other Healthy Living initiatives such as the implementation of our onsite community garden
  • Other duties and opportunities will be assigned and provided based on the intern’s time, availability, and interest

Time Commitment: 200 hours max during Summer Term (May 2026 - August 2026)

Benefit of Internship: This intern experience will provide a space to explore the area of well-being and healthy living using a Lifestyle Medicine framework as the anchor to our work. The intern will gain experience and knowledge across the areas with opportunity to provide education to class participant, take part in program planning and implementation. The intern will also have the opportunity to engage other divisions with the goal of a robust experience providing knowledge across all areas of public health.

Candidate will be selected in March.

Cabarrus Health Alliance

The Cabarrus Health Alliance (CHA), the health department serving Cabarrus County, brings nationally recognized leadership and expertise in public health to the the NC Research Campus. CHA is one of the only nationally certified public health departments in the country. CHA provides many free to low-cost classes and programs for the residents of Cabarrus County on subjects such as healthy cooking, yoga, nutrition education and disease management. Classes and programs are offered at the CHA headquarters in Kannapolis and throughout Cabarrus County in neighborhood centers, churches and other facilities.
