Summer 2026 Undergraduate Internship Program – Hospital Operations

During Summer 2026, NYP will offer a 10-week paid Hospital Operations internship for currently enrolled undergraduate students from leading universities.

Hospital Operations Undergraduate Interns will work closely with administrative and operational leaders across inpatient and outpatient settings to support initiatives focused on operational efficiency, patient flow, quality of care, access, and service excellence. This internship provides a foundational introduction to hospital operations and healthcare administration within a complex academic medical center.

About Hospital Operations

The Hospital Operations division is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the hospital, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Teams collaborate across clinical, administrative, and support services to optimize throughput, improve patient experience, and support frontline staff. Interns will gain firsthand exposure to operational processes, performance improvement efforts, and cross-functional collaboration in a hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities May Include

  • Supporting operational improvement initiatives related to patient flow, throughput, and capacity management

  • Assisting with data collection, basic analysis, and reporting of operational metrics
  • Participating in process improvement projects and operational planning activities
  • Preparing presentations and materials for leadership and team meetings
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams across clinical and administrative areas

Internship Program Components

  • Assigned mentor from NYP’s Emerging Leadership Council
  • One-on-one career conversations with hospital and administrative leaders
  • Final presentation to senior leadership highlighting summer contributions
  • Networking and professional development events with other undergraduate interns and emerging leaders

Program Details

  • Dates: June 1 – August 7, 2026
  • Location: On-site in New York, NY
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday
  • Note: NYP does not offer relocation stipends for interns

Preferred Criteria

  • Current undergraduate students pursuing degrees in Health Administration, Public Health, Business, Health Policy, Operations Management, or related fields
  • Demonstrated interest in healthcare operations, hospital administration, or quality improvement
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, in-person environment

Required Criteria

  • Completion of at least sophomore year by the start of the internship
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and professionalism skills
