Description of program and training opportunities:

Seeking first year, or second year master’s level interns. Trauma Intervention Services Program is located within Wayside’s Blackstone Valley Community Services Program in Milford, MA.  It is a victim service program offering support and advocacy to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.  Interns working for TIS would participate in providing hotline coverage, individual and group supportive counseling and advocacy services to clients ages 12 and up in our Sexual Assault and ages 5 and up for our Child Witness to Violence Programs. Services are free and confidential and offered to both victims and their non-offending significant others.

Referrals typically come from DCF, area police, schools and pediatricians, as well as other medical professionals, with a focus on improving safety and overall functioning following their victimization. In addition to counseling services, interns gain experience in providing brief assessments, case management, safety planning, crisis intervention, and provide information and referrals. This site is a placement for interns who want to increase their skills and knowledge in working with families experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault, and who are interested in working on a team. Interns are supported by licensed supervisors and an experienced clinical team. A 40-rape crisis/domestic violence training is required and will be provided.
