Motorola Solutions is seeking an Upgrade Operations Engineering Intern with excellent interpersonal skills and knowledge of computer networking concepts, particularly Linux. The ideal candidate will be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, IT Networking, or a related field, and be in their junior or senior year. Experience with virtualization technologies and cloud infrastructure is a plus.

The customer team comprises Sales, Project Management, System Engineering and System Technologist personnel working together in a high performance culture, often with demanding cycle times and high customer expectations because we are working on mission critical communication systems.
Many of our systems are designed around the APCO Project 25 communications standard. With the growth of data services some of our customer’s mobile wireless networks are being enhanced with LTE infrastructure for applications such as live mobile video transmission supplementing our traditional core voice and narrow-band data networks.
The UO Engineering Intern will be involved in the following:
Learning about the system upgrade process and technologies that MSI deploys
Customer presentations
System staging
Live system upgrades
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Knowledge of computer networking concepts, and experience with Linux.
Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or KVM.
Experience with cloud infrastructure
Experience with scripting coding eg. Javascript, python, powerCLI, Powershell
Understanding in deployment, upgrade, troubleshooting, parts replacement, and upgrades on client devices.
Interested in traveling to various customer sites
Position is based in Elgin, IL
Required Skills:
Must currently be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree with a major in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, IT Networking, or related field (Junior / Senior year)
Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract. As an intern, there will not be a need to apply for security clearance, but if an internship is later converted to a full-time position, the candidate must obtain the necessary security clearance.
