Job Description

Family Service Association is currently accepting applications for Interns for the 2025 school year at our Kids Academy program! Interns will help the classroom Teacher and Program Director with the day to day functioning of the Child Care Program and ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times, being alert to the needs and/or problems of the children as individuals and as a group. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Become familiar with Department of Early Education and Care Group and School Age regulations.
  • Become familiar with program policies and procedures.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children in their care at all times. 
  • Maintain a safe and clean classroom environment, ensuring the space is free from hazard at all times.
  • Follow proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures to ensure a healthy environment, including but not limited to proper hand washing and cleaning/sanitizing practices.  
  • Assist Classroom Teacher in implementing planned curriculum, arraigning classroom environments, and decorating of classroom.
  • Maintain equipment and child care property.
  • Foster a warm, relaxed, and non-threatening atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Using developmentally appropriate expectation, interact with children throughout the day, modeling appropriate behaviors and expectations.  This includes sitting and interacting with children during free time, structured time and at meal times.   
  • Assist children to be self-reliant modeling appropriate communication and personal hygiene. (i.e., brushing teeth after snack).
  • Use positive approach to help guide children’s behavior constructively; using re-direction, role modeling, planning for transitions, and setting developmentally appropriate expectations to encourage appropriate behavior and social skills.  Report to the Teacher any special needs or problems of individual children or any cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.
  • Document any concerns or problems with the children.

Internship Requirements:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Enrolled in an EEC program at their host school
    • Interns will be under the direct supervision of a qualified Teacher at all times.
