The Student Surgical Technician assists surgical staff with preparing and maintaining sterile environments, handling instruments, and supporting patient care throughout surgical procedures. This internship-style role offers hands-on learning, building practical skills under the supervision of licensed surgical technologists and surgical services leadership.
• Assist with duties typically assigned to orderlies and sterile processing technicians.
• Print surgical preference cards and “pick” cases to prepare for procedures.
• Organize, store, and maintain sterile supplies and equipment.
• Open surgical supplies and gather instruments for procedures.
• Set up and maintain sterile fields, ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols.
• Assist during surgeries by handing instruments, cameras, and other equipment as directed.
• Participate in “buddy-call” system after completion of orientation for hands-on mentorship.
• Support a cooperative, team-oriented environment to ensure high-quality patient care.
Required:
• Enrollment in an accredited surgical technology program, in good standing.
• Basic knowledge of surgical technology and experience in hospital clinical rotations.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Preferred:
• Prior clinical exposure in surgery, sterile processing, or related healthcare settings.
