ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) INTERNSHIP – UNDERGRAD

ONSITE AT FARMERS MUTUAL HAIL INSURANCE COMPANY OF IOWA

Are you a college student that is interested in exploring how to put Artificial Intelligence (AI) to good use in a business environment?  Farmers Mutual Hail (located in West Des Moines) is currently looking for a qualified undergraduate to join as an AI Intern for our 2026 Summer Internship Program.  This is a paid internship starting Monday, May 18 through Friday, August 7, working up to 40 hours per week for the summer, with the potential to turn into a full-time, permanent position in the future.  The intern will Intern will work alongside their mentor to support the business by researching, developing and implementing various Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and technologies.

We are looking for currently-enrolled college students who are close to the West Des Moines area, as this is not a remote internship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

• Fine-tunes prompts and models to optimize AI-driven business applications.
• Performs data preprocessing, analysis, and validation to support AI development and integration.
• Assists in testing, debugging, and maintaining AI systems and related tools.
• Researches, evaluates, and experiments with emerging AI technologies to identify opportunities for business use.
• Designs, develops, and maintains software solutions primarily using Python and related technologies.
• Analyzes and interprets business and technical requirements to inform system design and functionality.
• Develops and maintains technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
• Collaborates effectively with team members and cross-functional groups to support ongoing initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Must be a currently-enrolled sophomore, junior or senior at an undergraduate college or university, majoring in Computer Science, Data Science, MIS or related technical field. A minor or focus on AI is highly preferred.
• Exposure to Python (required), familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, basic infrastructure concepts, or AI frameworks (such as LangChain, TensorFlow, PyTorch) is a plus.
