About the Job

  • Completes a thorough assessment of the member’s fitness level and uncovers any medical problems and obtains signed release form. Establishes personal goals and objectives for the member.
  • Plans a program appropriate to the goals and objectives of the member.
  • Discusses the program with the member to assure that the program is meeting his/her basic goals and objectives.
  • Assesses and reassess member needs at each session.
  • Maintains records of each member’s needs at each session.
  • Attends staff meetings and workshops.
  • Maintains all personal certifications by attending workshops and recertification training.
  • Proactively build up a client base of individuals in order to support overall branch goal.
  • Performs fitness evaluation for clients and members as needed. Builds safety considerations into the exercise program.
  • Identifies unsafe practices or conditions in the exercise facility; notifies the Wellness Director of unsafe conditions and/or intervenes when an unsafe behavior is observed.
  • Pursues an area of expertise that is in alignment with branch membership and community demographics.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current CPR and AED.
  • Current national certification in personal training from a recognized national certifying organization.
  • YMCA Healthy Lifestyles/Personal Training.
  • Hold YMCA Fitness Specialist or ACSM certification or equivalent education or documented expertise.
  • Minimum one-year personal training experience.
  • Display an outgoing personality with an ability to be sensitive to the needs of each individual member.
  • Knowledgeable on all strength equipment and the safe use of that equipment
