Job Title: Research and Development Test Engineer Intern

Job Grade: 8 (Hourly non-exempt)

About the Role:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to support research and development activities. This role would carry out tests related to new product development initiatives for advanced manufacturing systems used in precision optics. This internship will provide hands-on experience in testing, data analysis, and process documentation, all within the context of cutting-edge optical fabrication and metrology technologies.

The intern will work closely with engineers to execute well-defined experiments, analyze results, and rigorously document findings. This role is ideal for a candidate interested in applying their academic knowledge in a real-world R&D environment with a focus on precision engineering and optics.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Support testing and data collection for R&D projects related to optical fabrication systems.
  • Conduct analysis of experimental data, including surface figure and metrology results.
  • Maintain rigorous documentation of test procedures, data, and outcomes.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports, presentations, and summaries for project teams.
  • Collaborate with project team to support new product development activities.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optics, Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or a related technical field.
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency in following instructions.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a proactive approach to learning.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on clear and precise documentation.
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
    • Optics or optical engineering
    • Optical metrology techniques
    • Surface figure analysis
    • Optical fabrication methods
    • Experience with Design of Experiments(DOE) principles
