Energy and Sustainability Co-op/Intern – Summer 2026

This job description reflects potential openings for the Summer 2026 Co-op/Internship Session (May-August). This is a general job description and represents multiple openings in various departments. Honda offers both single and multi-semester co-ops and internships. College students must apply to the requisition pertaining to their major and semester of interest.

The below descriptions reflect potential environments and duties within our various Energy and Sustainability Co-op/ Intern positions that we offer. Work environments and projects may include but are not limited to:

  1. EV Charging Infrastructure
    • Assist in the design and planning of EV charging initiatives, including but not limited to Vehicle-One-Grid (V1G), Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X), and fast charging initiatives.  
    • Conduct analysis on EV charging patterns and suggest optimization strategies. 
    • Engage with vendors and stakeholders to facilitate the deployment of charging infrastructure. 
  2. Carbon Neutral Solutions
    • Participate in the development and implementation of carbon accounting methods. 
    • Assist in creating strategies for carbon footprint reduction in company operations. 
    • Contribute to lifecycle assessment projects to evaluate the environmental impact of products or services. 
    • Research and evaluate current and future trends/options in carbon neutral technologies.
  1. Hydrogen Fuel Cells
    • Support the research and application of hydrogen fuel cell technologies. 
    • Collaborate on pilot projects and business development for integrating hydrogen fuel cells into new applications. 
    • Research and develop business strategy for the generation of green hydrogen. 
  2. Resource Circularity
    • Aid in the development of circular economy initiatives, such as recycling programs or materials repurposing. 
    • Perform research on sustainable materials management and waste reduction practices. 
    • Work with cross-functional teams to enhance resource efficiency and sustainability in manufacturing processes.

General Duties: 

  • Assist with the development of sustainability reports and documentation. 
  • Support sustainability certification processes for the company. 
  • Participate in the identification and application for sustainability grants or incentives. 
  • Collaborate with teams to integrate sustainable design principles into new products. 
  • Conduct energy audits and recommend energy-saving measures. 
  • Assist with the implementation of energy management systems. 

What you need to be successful in this role

Required:

  • General Engineering Coursework
  • Minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA or higher (You will be required to provide your current transcript)
  • Class status- Sophomore (by credit hour) or above
  • Availability to work a minimum of 10 weeks at 40 hours per week.
  • Enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program studying Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Ability to provide own transportation to and from work each day.

Desired: Experience and/or interest in Sustainability

Position Locations

Energy and Sustainability Co-op/Intern positions are offered in the cities/ states listed below, if you are selected to move forward in the process, you will be given the opportunity to make selections on your location preferences: 

  • Torrance, California (30 minutes south of Downtown Los Angeles, California) 
  • Marysville, Ohio (45 minutes northwest of Columbus, Ohio)

Housing Accommodations: Honda offers housing at a shared cost, or a housing stipend based on location for our Co-ops and Interns. It is not required to opt-in to but is available should you need housing at the time of your Co-op/ Internship with Honda.

Mentorship: Each Co-op/ Intern is assigned a mentor in your department to help you navigate your time at Honda.

On-site Wellness Center: Co-ops and Interns have access to join our Wellness Centers (varies by location). Our Wellness Centers are full gyms equipped with cardio machines, weights, basketball courts, pools, dieticians, personal trainers and group fitness classes.

Paid overtime: Co-ops and Interns will receive 1.5 times their hourly rate of pay for any overtime worked.

Hourly Wage Range: $23.35 - $35.22

Pay will be based on several variables that include, but not limited to, geographic location, work experience, education, etc.

Consideration for full time employment: Our Cooperative Learning Internships program is utilized as a talent pipeline for our full-time positions!
