Description

Position Summary

The infusion nurse assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for patients in an infusion outpatient setting. 


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Correctly identifies the patient for infusion
  • Inserts and monitors IV catheters
  • Collects routine lab specimens
  • Maintains equipment to be used with patients
  • Assesses patients throughout the infusion for adverse reactions to the medication
  • Documents medications, vital signs, and side effects in the medical record
  • Educates self, staff, and patient family regarding all infusion medications and premeds
  • Responds appropriately to side effects, adverse reactions, or anaphylaxis during infusion
  • Sort through daily correspondence and give it to the physician for review.
  • Checking Inbox continuously through the day-- Handling all messages sent to inbox from front office and provider. This includes calling/mailing info to the patients about labs or referral appts set up by the nurse, corresponding with the physician on any patient's questions that come in.
  • Process Benefit Investigation for medication prescribed. 
  • Processing prior authorizations
  • Medication and medical supply inventory management
  • All other duties assigned by the office manager or providers.

Qualifications


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic nursing principles and protocols.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical chart reporting/records.
  • Skill in appropriate assessment and assistance techniques.
  • Skill in appropriate use of universal precautions, safe workplace and confidentiality methods.
  • Skill in health information management by appropriately charting patient data.
  • Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the job offer.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in busy or emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively as team members with physicians and other staff.
  • Ability to appropriately interact with patients, families, staff and others.
  • Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.

Education / Training / Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED; and one to three months related experience / training
  • Nursing school diploma
  • Current VA state license.
  • CPR Certification.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift or move equipment.
  • Ability to stand and walk for limited periods of time.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to enter data into a computer via a keyboard.
  • Ability to occasionally reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 30 lbs. *
  • Ability to grasp and hold up to 30 lbs.*
  • Ability to occasionally squat and lean over.
  • Ability to hear normal voice level communications in person or through the telephone.
  • Ability to speak clearly and understandably.
  • Basic vision, corrected.
